ClipWise — Privacy Policy

Data Collection

ClipWise does not collect any data. Specifically:

• No personal information is collected
• No browsing history is collected
• No analytics or telemetry data is collected
• No cookies are used
• No third-party tracking scripts are included
• No data is sent to the extension developer or any third-party server

Data Storage

All data you create with ClipWise (clips, projects, tags, ratings, and notes) is stored in your browser's local IndexedDB database. This data:

• Is stored locally on your device by default
• Is not accessible to the extension developer or any third party
• Can be exported by you at any time as a JSON or Markdown backup file
• Can be deleted by you at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing browser data

Google Drive Sync (Optional)

ClipWise offers an optional sync feature that stores your data in your own Google Drive account. When you enable sync:

• Your clips and projects are stored in a private app-data folder (appDataFolder) in your Google Drive
• This folder is invisible in your Google Drive UI and can only be accessed by ClipWise
• ClipWise uses the drive.appdata scope, which cannot access your other Google Drive files, folders, or documents
• Data is synced directly between your browser and your Google Drive — no third-party server is involved
• You can disable sync at any time, and your local data remains intact
• You can revoke access at any time in your Google Account settings

Sync is off by default. You must explicitly enable it and authorize with your Google account.

Network Requests

By default, ClipWise makes zero network requests and operates entirely offline after installation.

If you enable Google Drive Sync, ClipWise connects only to the Google Drive API (googleapis.com) to read and write your sync data. No other network requests are made. No data is sent to the extension developer or any analytics service.

Permissions

The extension requests only the minimum permissions required to function:

• Side Panel — to display the notebook interface
• Content Scripts — to inject clip buttons on ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini pages and read conversation content when you click a clip button
• Storage — to persist your data and preferences locally
• Identity — to authenticate with your Google account for optional Google Drive sync (only used when you enable sync)

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. The core commitment — no data collection, user-controlled sync, no third-party data sharing — will not change.
